Why Self-Help?
August 4th, 2009
Self-help is incredibly important to me. It has been so influential in my own process over the years, and it continues to inspire the way I exist in the world and how I work with others in a therapeutic capacity.
I have found that it can be very hard to find information about good self-help. Selling and promoting this kind of product/service has become an industry in and of itself, and there’s a lot of information to sift through. There will be points when I will direct you to resources I have found useful, such as books and self-help programs. As always, you can turn to the help of a qualified therapist, in which case I suggest you contact your local association of Marriage and Family Therapist’s to find trained, licensed professionals.
I’ve got tons of thoughts about self-help, based on both experience and study (my personal process and the work I did as I got my Master’s degree in clinical psychology). If any of the thoughts or resources presented here can help just one person find those self-help needles in the haystack of options, I’ll be thrilled!
If you’re looking for resources, I wish you the best of luck. Most importantly, I hope you consider yourself worthy of all the love and support you can get. Navigating your way through the deep waters of your mind and soul is a task that most certainly warrants assistance. So go out there and find what you need to become the person you want to be! You truly deserve it.
